February and March were very busy for our team as we interviewed with SpaceX and The Boring Company about our design. The interviews presented an opportunity for our sub-teams to explain the design rationale and answer important safety questions. This experience was significantly helpful for practicing our presentation skills and receiving feedback from engineers at those companies.

Exciting developments have also occurred on our funding side since a generous Cooper Union a...

Greetings from the Cooper Hyperloop Team! As the first month of 2019 comes to an end, we are excited to announce that we’re one of the few competing teams to go to the final stage which will determine entrance to the competition in Hawthorne, California this summer!

In the first two weeks of January, the team completed the Final Design Report (FDR), and submitted it to SpaceX. During this period, we conducted multiple validation tests related to the power, brakes, and elect...

The months of November and December saw our team making

great progress towards our goals. We have started preparing for the submission of the Final Design Report to SpaceX and each
team has been individually making progress.

In November and December, the controls and navigation team completed their controls codes, and fully tested the navigation system and its response to fiducial sensor inputs. All control boards were proven to communicate successfully.

The brakes team delv...

The Cooper Hyperloop team is now one of the semi-finalists to advance in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition for 2019!

In this phase we are competing next to 51 national and international schools with our final design of the pod. The new submission deadline represents a great opportunity for our team to elaborate on each of the sub-systems. In the coming weeks we will be detailing our work and conduct testing.

Please help us become finalists...

October was a highly productive month for our team as we submitted to SpaceX the Preliminary Design Report. This report consists of designs of each subsystem, along with an explanation of design rationales, and testing & validation plans.

In a closer look, the Airframe subsystem started their meetings, researching and designing the aerodynamic shell of the pod. The team initially decided on which material to use, ultimately choosing carbon fiber because of it's low weight,...

This week, we are featuring our brakes subsystem leader, Mike Chan (ChemE 2021).

How did Hyperloop open the door to many opportunities that affected your Cooper career?

"Hyperloop has allowed me to gain hands-on experience with intensive aspects of design and fabrication that normally, as a ChemE, could not have been obtained from the curriculum alone. I have learned the fundamentals of the mechanical design of a complex system and the multifaceted nature of considerations...

The Cooper Hyperloop had a great start this new academic year as 15 new members joined. The whole team meets every Tuesday and each sub-team also meets at least once a week. On September 12th, we submitted our Intent to Compete Form to SpaceX, and are now officially recognized as one of the competing teams.

The brakes team has made significant progress and completed the construction of the testbed - an aluminum disk that rotates at a high speed - which began in July, 2018....

Seven months have flown by since the inception of the Cooper Hyperloop in January. As the summer is about to come to an end, we are happy to have finished the brake's test frame, to have received the first round of donations, and have attended this year's competition in July 22nd.

More importantly, we are happy to announce that we will start recruiting for new positions! Excited and hard-working students from all majors at Cooper are welcome to apply, including freshmen and...
